A female and authoritative view of Artificial Intelligence

Interview with a Young AI Developer

At a time when Artificial Intelligence is experiencing extraordinary momentum—despite many still not fully understanding what it means—the voice of a young female engineer brings clarity and insight to the conversation.

Clara Bureu is an engineer graduated from the National University of Rosario, where she also works as a teacher. Today he is part of the N5 team, where he applies his knowledge and talent to the development of intelligent solutions for the financial industry.

In their field – more than in any other discipline – permanent innovation means that training must never stop. Since 2023, Clara has been expanding her knowledge in Artificial Intelligence through a postgraduate degree at the University of Buenos Aires.

Hi Clara, thank you for having us. We would like you to tell us about your experience in the field of Artificial Intelligence.

How was the path you made to arrive at this activity in which you work today?

I was always attracted to challenges and problem solving, which is why I chose a technical background from the beginning. I studied Electronic Engineering, a career that allowed me to develop an analytical view and a structured approach. Throughout my professional career I explored different fields, until in 2023 I discovered the world of Artificial Intelligence through a postgraduate degree. I completed the AI Specialist degree and I am currently in the second year to obtain the Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence at the UBA. Today I apply all that knowledge in the projects I develop with the N5 team.

What is it like to dedicate yourself to this activity, being a woman?

From the beginning of my academic training, I developed in environments where most of my classmates were men. Even so, I never experienced it as a disadvantage. I always found inclusive work teams, where I felt valued and respected. I believe that commitment, responsibility and vocation make a difference, beyond gender.

If you had to explain what work you do to someone who doesn’t fully understand what AI entails, how would you do it?

I work on the development of an intelligent digital assistant that helps people with day-to-day tasks. For example, you can search for information in databases, read documents, send emails or schedule meetings, all automatically. The idea is that this assistant works as a team with people, making it easier and faster to manage their tasks.

What are, for you, the solutions offered by AI and what problems from the past do you think it solves?

AI makes it possible to solve tasks that were previously time-consuming, effort-intensive, or even impossible to tackle manually, such as analyzing large volumes of data or detecting complex patterns. This leads to concrete improvements in different sectors, from health to finance. The ability to automate processes and optimize resources helps solve historical problems such as operational inefficiency, repetitive work, or lack of quick access to information.

What future inconveniences can it generate?

One of my main concerns is the impact it can have on new generations, especially children and adolescents. It is important that their use is accompanied by regulation that protects the development of skills such as creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving. Technology must be at the service of human development, not replace it.

How do you think it will impact the workplace?

We are going through a paradigm shift. The arrival of AI forces us to rethink how we work, what tasks we do and how we can complement ourselves with these tools. I don’t share the apocalyptic view that “AI is going to replace everything.” I think it’s more about transformation: many roles will change and new ones will emerge.

What would you recommend to a young person who wants to develop in AI?

That they are encouraged to explore, that they are trained and not afraid of making mistakes. A solid degree opens many doors, but it is also key to stay up to date and with an attitude of constant learning.

What’s concerning about AI black boxes?

The most worrying thing is that we often do not understand how an AI came to a certain conclusion. That lack of transparency is risky, especially when decisions impact people. Therefore, it is essential to work on more explainable models and ethical frameworks that accompany their development and use.

What are AI “Hallucinations”? Why are they so worrying and how do you think they will be corrected?

Hallucinations are responses generated by AI models that appear correct, but are actually false or fabricated. They are worrying because they can generate misinformation, especially if the user has no way to validate the information. To correct them, it is key to train the models with better data, incorporate verification mechanisms and, in many cases, have human supervision in the process.

Thank you very much, Clara! It is an honor that you have shared with us your knowledge and critical vision of this technology that is transforming the world.
